The Gallery Collection isn’t merely an on-site gallery space at the resort. Rather, throughout the grounds, in every public space available, the works of 45 of the nation’s finest artists are on display as part of one of Santa Fe’s largest collections. Known as one of the only resorts or hotels in the nation that employs a full-time art curator, La Posada is unique in being the only destination resort in the country that is focused on the creation and appreciation of the visual arts. Much of that notoriety comes from the comprehensive arts program based around The Gallery Collection.

It’s not just the works on display in the halls and around the grounds that has La Posada once again feeling like the art colony it was originally intended to be. Evidence of a cultural renaissance at the resort can be seen everywhere: independent artists are seen painting in the gardens, tours take guests inside working studios on- and off-site, and complimentary painting demonstrations and classes draw guests and local residents together to learn form and technique. With so much art being created and appreciated around The Gallery Collection at La Posada, the resort has once again become one of Santa Fe’s cultural centers and a true haven for artists.

Sara Eyestone, Art Curator

American artist Sara Eyestone has enjoyed a diverse and successful career that began as a painter and evolved to gallery owner, art business and marketing consultant, and now art curator at the historic La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa. Over her 40-year career, Eyestone has amassed a large following of international collectors who commission her elegant oil paintings. Her excellent reputation as an artist, a businesswoman, and an art judge and juror for prestigious exhibitions made her the obvious choice to select and manage the coveted art collection at La Posada de Santa Fe.

Sara’s vision as curator is to recapture the “glory days” of the 1940’s and ‘50’s when La Posada was an art destination. Featuring the colorful work of ”Los Cinco Pintores,” including Will Shuster, Jozef Bakos, Fremont Ellis, Willard Nash, and Walter Murk, as well as many other Santa Fe-based artists of the day, the collection today celebrates artists that embody this golden age of Santa Fe art. At the time, these artists painted on the grounds and presented workshops and studio visits to other artists in the area. It’s in the spirit of this mid-century art sanctuary that Eyestone has curated one of the finest collections of American art in the world.
