Guests Slumber Amidst Priceless Works of Art in La Posada's Galley Suites
SANTE FE, NM (November 19, 2004) -- Santa Fe, New Mexico has emerged as an international destination because of its unique blending of Southwestern culture and heritage with world-class art, architecture, performing arts, and cuisine. Now, the historic La Posada de Santa Fe Resort & Spa is continuing its tradition of delivering an experience rich in the tapestry of this Southwestern region through its new Gallery Suite guest rooms, each featuring museum quality original works of art provided by the area’s finest galleries.
Guests can stay in one of five Gallery Suites, each featuring original artwork from renowned local, national and international artists. The décor of each suite is paired with the artwork contained within, to wrap a guest deeply in the tradition and warmth of the Southwest. Four one-bedroom suites, each with a private kiva fireplace, feature contemporary works of art on paper, canvas, glass, metal sculpture, stone and brilliant silver tone prints.
The four Santa Fe galleries participating in this one-of-a-kind guestroom project are: Peyton Wright, Turner Carroll, Waxlander and Photogenesis.
The 1,400 square foot presidential suite, known as the Peyton Wright Suite, includes a living room, billiards room, separate media room, large master bedroom suite and two full baths. Amenities include authentic kiva fireplaces in the master bedroom, living room and billiards room, flat panel television screens throughout, and a private patio. Artwork adorns not just the walls, but also the floors with rugs provided by the Packard Gallery. On the walls are paintings by artists, provided by the famed Peyton Wright Gallery, and valued in excess of a quarter of a million dollars.
La Posada originated the concept of “borrowing” works of art from neighboring galleries as a means of bringing the flavor, culture and color of Santa Fe into the resort without having to invest in continually updating or rotating a collection. Resort guests enjoy an ever-changing collection spread through the public rooms of the six-acre property – from the lobby to its renowned restaurant, Fuego, to its popular Avanyu health spa and now to these five new Gallery Suites.
All told, the collection features art collectively valued at nearly five million dollars. Santa Fe is blessed with one of the nation’s largest collections of renowned fine art galleries and by working collaboratively with them, La Posada is able to provide its guests with a collection that is broad and varied and continually changing, so returning guests see new works with each visit.
“The Gallery Suite program at La Posada represents the first of its kind in the region where a hotel brings a great visual experience into the guest’s room. We are fortunate to have access to remarkable works of art in the Santa Fe community and this will encourage visitors to take in our neighboring galleries,” said Marilyn McCray, Curator of the La Posada Art Collection.
